Neo-traditional keeps the backbone of American traditional — bold outlines, saturated fills — but opens the palette, softens the shading, and widens the subject vocabulary to anything an illustrator might draw. Art-nouveau flourishes, animal portraits, ornamental frames. The style emerged in the 2000s as artists with illustration backgrounds joined tattooing and pulled the craft toward storybook aesthetics.
