Japanese tattooing has its own grammar. Large-scale body suits and sleeves are the default canvas, not accent pieces. The subject vocabulary — koi, dragons, tigers, phoenixes, peonies, chrysanthemums — is anchored in centuries of Japanese visual tradition, and each motif carries specific meaning.
