Ignorant style is a rejection of technical polish. The work looks hand-drawn, sometimes childlike, sometimes graffiti-like, always deliberately unfinished. It emerged from European and Latin American street-art scenes in the 2010s. The appeal is the anti-aesthetic: a tattoo that refuses to be precious about itself. Paradoxically, the best ignorant-style artists are highly skilled — the looseness reads as confident, not sloppy. No. The work is deliberately crude but still technically sound — good ignorant-style is confident and readable, just unpolished by choice. Does it age well? Yes — because the style forgives imperfection by design, healing changes read as part of the aesthetic rather than flaws. Is it cheaper than traditional? Usually similar per hour.
